American Life

Mrs. Felton's "American Life" is sometimes more commonly known as "American life. A narrative of two years' city and country residence in the United States" which gives a bit more insight into the work's content. Set in the 1800s, this autobiographical story follows the writer as she navigates New York City during its prime. Though much has changed about the city in the centuries since its first publication, Rebecca Ann Latimer (Mrs. Felton's real name) manages to capture the essence of New York that even modern readers will recognize.
