Audacious Carr, daughter of an eminent scientist, is expected to ascend and join those living on the space station above what is left of a ruined Earth. Fate has other plans. She fails her ascension ceremony before the assembled and is exiled to Disaster, the below Earth colony where the Descended live, all those who failed their ascension into proper society. Audi is determined to return home and claim her rightful place; however, when that is thwarted, she must accept the life she has now and when that life is threatened, she must fight to protect it.
