Jodie and Iris had a well-kept secret. They had written exposés for a London publisher under a single pen name targeting celebrities with dark pasts. Their latest book is about a sleazy politician with a lust for power. The books sell well, however Jodie was driven crazy working with Iris's difficult personality and the antagonism was well known to others. When Iris is brutally murdered, Jodie becomes the prime suspect. The police are convinced that she killed her writing partner to receive all, instead of half, the royalties but also to escape Iris's maddening ways. Jodie figures the police should be concentrating on the celebrities she and Iris unmasked in their exposés because those people all share the strongest of motives: revenge. But does the killer know that behind the pen name are two writers, not one? Is Jodie's life in danger too? Jodie decides to lie low and flees to the inaccessible wilderness of Darkwater Lake in Canada. It might be remote, but can the idyllic setting offer real safety? With her life in danger and nowhere to turn, Jodie must uncover the truth behind Iris's murder before she is arrested or, worse, she becomes the next victim. A Writer is Dead is the first in the clean and cozy-ish Darkwater Lake Mystery series.
