Mark Pierson is a shy thirteen-year-old, still mourning the recent loss of his mother and sister. Elise Mokette is a wild chaotic tomboy, who cares more about the various pets she keeps in her room than the expectations of her teachers or family. Bobby Kendell is an aloof outsider, slightly resentful of the clear purpose and direction his older brothers constantly exhibit. Naiyana Tanaka is a newcomer to town, and feels isolated by her alien presence in a culture she's still learning to understand.
