A coming-of-age story about a 14-year-old freshman in 2005 as she navigates making new friends, as well as trying to keep old ones, all while quietly carrying a recent trauma she refuses to name. Not sure of where she fits in, she is befriended by the school's designated "Goth Girl". She discovers new music and a new style, she meets new friends, and gains a new love interest. The story not only explores the complexities of teen friendships and romances, but also serves as a snapshot of this unique time period. The beginning of the "technology generation", as well as the eccentric styles and music genres of the early 2000s. A time capsule of flip phones, burning CDs, and the end of "the mall scene" as we knew it.
