A novel rooted firmly in its two locations: Kenya and Bahia, in Brazil, where the author has lived for a total of 7 years and includes a recurring theme of the cross-cultural connections between Africa and Brazil. It also includes several political references to the Angolan civil war. The principal theme of the novel is the personal cost to the individual of acting on his impulse to "live life to the fullest". The question to the reader is whether it is a cost worth incurring.
