Boston, 1978. Private investigator Jake Horn has spent years learning to live with ghosts…His wife's murder. His uncle's PI agency, now barely keeping the lights on. The daughter he raised alone, now away at college. And the '74 Nova his grandmother left him-one of the few things in his life he can still count on.When Jake's ex-fiancée walks into his South Boston office asking him to prove her husband's cheating, every instinct tells him to turn her away. He needs the work, sure. But he's not desperate enough to resurrect that particular past. Then her husband turns up dead, and she disappears. The hard-nosed detective leading the case is convinced Jake's hiding something. His ex-girlfriend is the prime suspect. And Maggie-his late wife's best friend and a Boston cop-helped raise his daughter before slowly drifting out of their lives. Now she's caught between her loyalty to Jake and her duty to the department. In a city where loyalty runs deeper than blood and the past never stays buried, Jake will have to decide how far he'll go for a woman he thought he'd left behind.
