Don Hinton was born into a world most people only hear about in stories. His father was a complicated man shaped by old Las Vegas, prison, loyalty, violence, and a code that did not always fit comfortably inside the law. Don inherited the name, the temper, the loyalty-and eventually the consequences.
A Good Man's Son follows Hinton from childhood in a changing Las Vegas through crime, addiction, violence, prison yards, friendships forged under impossible circumstances, devastating losses, and the long process of rebuilding a life he once seemed determined to destroy.
But this is not simply a crime story or a prison memoir. It is a story about fathers and sons, loyalty and betrayal, responsibility, family, and what it means to become a different man without pretending the man you used to be never existed.
Hinton writes without sanitizing the past or asking the reader to excuse it. He examines the people he loved, the people he hurt, the choices that shaped him, and the life he eventually built with his wife, his family, his businesses, and his community.
Raw, reflective, profane, and deeply personal, A Good Man's Son: The Name I Was Given and the Life I Lived is the story of a man who spent much of his life learning the difference between being dangerous and being good-and discovering that the two are not always opposites.
