About

This book captures life on the Caribbean Island nation of Trinidad in the 1950s and 1960s. A collection of autobiographical tales is told from the perspective of the author as a young girl growing up in an inter-racial family in the idyllic, inter-cultural village of Flanagin Town in Central Trinidad. Life on the island is vividly described through the use of Trinidadian Creole and Standard English. The stories are told with humour as the illiterate, bold, clever, yet flawed matriarch of the family, Popo, works tirelessly to ensure that her children will have an education and an easier life than she had. The author captures the acceptance and respect the peoples of this diverse community have for each other and each other's cultures.
