On the launch day of Earth's Super-Dimension Fortress, Earth was attacked by mysterious aliens and SDF-1 was eventually forced to space-fold into space – taking a chunk of Macross City with them. The SDF-1 is now in the midst of a long journey back to Earth. As the journey proceeded, Captain Henry Gloval died during the ship's modular transformation.
