A husband and wife wished for a child. The wife said she would be perfectly happy with a child no bigger than a thumb. Soon a child was born to the happy couple and he was no bigger than the husband's thumb. They named him Tom.
One day two men saw young Tom and thought they could make a fortune showing him to the towns people. They offered to buy young Tom but the husband refused. Tom whispered to the husband to, "Go ahead and sell me because I am sure I can escape and will return home." The father agreed and Tom Thumb's adventures begin.
Eventually Tom Thumb does return home and is reunited with his family.
