Lady Katherine Durant has the kind of innate magikal powers most sorcerers dream of. Her uncle is no exception. The man has spent years pressuring Kate to use her gifts for his ruthless aims, but she wants no part of that.
When he invokes dark magik to trap her in his most terrifying scheme yet, Kate flees to a distant land where magik is forbidden and a royal festival is underway. She needs to hide her powers and figure out her next move, but gets thrown into the games instead-games that involve a devilish prince intent on making her life even more complicated.
Bachelor prince Bregovi Tennerelli lives to explore. Discovering new lands, cultures, and healing remedies fuels his soul like rain fuels the deserts. Now, his father has cut off all funding unless Bregovi weds the winner of a spirited bride-finding contest. The king has invited nobles far and wide to compete, intending to secure a marriage alliance to help ward off sorcerers.
With no desire to settle down, especially with a bride not of his choosing, Bregovi comes up with another solution to the sorcerer problem. Then a surprising encounter with a bewitching maiden upsets all his plans.
