About

Ivan Franko's collection of fairy tales called "When the Animals Were Talking" was first published in 1899, the second edition appeared in 1903. Franko added a preface to this collection in which he wrote: "These are the fables collected in that little book , the old folk good... They best suit the taste of children from 6 to 12 years old, make them laugh and think, awaken their curiosity and attention to natural phenomena."

In the fairy tales of Ivan Yakovych Franko, under the guise of animals, people are ridiculed with their shortcomings: greed, ingratitude, cruelty and rudeness, tricks and laziness. In fairy tales, animals with these character traits are always punished. A hard-working Donkey, a wise Hedgehog, a weak Hare always defeat the strong and cunning Lion, Wolf, Bear. The hedgehog - the villain punished the cunning Fox for her treachery, and the kind and intelligent Thrush found a way out of the threatening situation and taught the Fox a lesson.

Fairy tales mock evil, envy, rudeness, ill-manneredness and stupidity. The little birds of the King did not allow the Bear to insult their dignity, to force him to ask for forgiveness, the good-natured Crane taught the cunning godmother Lysychka her method. The people never appreciate people who live by tricks, deception, at someone else's expense. No matter how he disguises his insidiousness, the truth will always be known, and then the cheater will not be happy.
