Toby's family has made sure he knows what a screw-up he is at every turn. Too fidgety, too touchy, just too much. He's given up hope of finding what he wants in search of the only kind of Daddy he thinks will be able to tolerate him, a patient one.

Daddy Samuel is a patient man, but that has nothing to do with why he wants his daughter's closest friend as his own. To him, Toby's quirks are part of his charm.
