New York Times bestselling author Jason Chaffetz looks at how the Democrats have used the hardships of 2020 to strengthen their control on power.
Virginia Governor Ralph Northam signed a gun control bill on April 10-three weeks into pandemic-because he wouldn't have to put up with tens of thousands of protestors. Michigan Governor Tony Evers announced he was making it a criminal offense to attend church or go to work, only to see his overreach struck down by the state supreme court. Nancy Pelosi rammed through a $3 trillion liberal wishlist filled with proposals unrelated to COVID-19, that immediately died in the Senate.
The coronavirus has been a disaster for America, but it's been an unprecedented opportunity for schemes from politicians like Andrew Cuomo and Gavin Newsom.
Politicians at all levels used the fear surrounding the pandemic to bend rules, subvert democracy, ignore public opinion, and lay claim to powers they wish they had. Chaffetz delves into their efforts, successful and unsuccessful, to undermine the institutions they never appreciated anyway. Many stoked more fear when those around them hesitated. He explores the way Democrats are always preparing for a moment like this, and Republicans should always be ready. If not for the courts and local media, many of them would have gotten away with it. In fact, many of the most egregious acts were celebrated across the left.
In They Never Let a Crisis Go to Waste, one of the right's sharpest and more principled observers lays out the left's game plan, details their latest outrageous, and calls upon all Americans to protect ourselves against future incursions.
