This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice. She is seventy years old. She lives alone in a little house. Her husband of fifty years passed away last year.
She is, without question, the happiest person on the street.
Known to everyone only as The Pickled Egg, she tends her garden, plays bridge every other Thursday, feeds a cardinal named Gerald, and manages to find something genuinely wonderful in nearly everything - including the grumpiest neighbor she has ever met, a rabbit with excellent taste in lettuce, and a power outage that turns into the finest Friday evening in recent memory.
This is her year. All of it - the grief, the gladness, the lemon bars, the small and daily evidence that life, looked at closely enough, is still very much worth living.
The Pickled Egg is a novel about paying attention. About carrying loss in one hand and joy in the other. About a woman who has decided, cheerfully and without apology, that things are mostly good.
