In a world where extraordinary mental abilities have reshaped society-telepaths, teleporters, prescients, and more-being ordinary is the rarest condition of all.
Jean Carlysle is a young woman with a modest talent and a restless spirit, drawn into a strange encounter one night at a smoky tavern. There, she meets Claude… a man unlike anyone she has ever known. He possesses no abilities. No gifts. No place in a world built on power.
He is a Nothing.
What begins as a chance meeting quickly spirals into something far greater-a glimpse into a hidden system quietly preparing for humanity's uncertain future. As the gifted grow weaker with each generation, and the balance of power begins to shift, Jean and Claude find themselves at the center of a fragile, calculated hope.
But when the future itself becomes unclear-even to those who can see it-one question remains:
What happens when the world can no longer rely on its powers… and must rely instead on something far more human?
A thought-provoking early work from Frank Herbert, The Nothing explores destiny, control, and the quiet strength of those who stand outside the extraordinary.
