This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice. On her seventh birthday, Lake Worthey receives a mysterious card from a grandmother she has never met. Hours later, her family's car swerves to avoid a strange creature on the road, leaving her parents gravely injured and clinging to life. When a man from Health and Family Services tries to separate Lake from her twelve-year-old brother Adam, the siblings make a daring escape. They are on the run and decide they must find the only family they believe they have left.
Meanwhile, four hours to the north, siblings Verona and Lincoln Destin are staying with their eccentric neighbor, Asir Qureshi, while their parents travel. Strange things begin to happen, which prompt Asir to reveal that the world is not as ordinary as it seems-ancient beings called Jinn, born from misery, are awakening. When Asir is attacked by a Jinn werewolf named Jinx, Verona and Lincoln begin a dangerous search for the mysterious Moon Woman, the only one who can restore the magical Flame of Life and stop the coming darkness.
Along the way, the siblings' paths converge. Joined by a troubled teenage runaway named Jack, the five children encounter dangers, meet new friends, and ultimately discover hidden abilities. Under the Moon Woman's guidance, they begin to unlock powers born not from destiny or privilege, but from courage, compassion, and strength of heart.
But as the Summer Solstice approaches, the Jinn rise in force. Led by the ruthless Jinx, they intend to defeat the Keepers, free their leaders, and conquer the world, plunging it into despair. Outmatched and outnumbered, the children must muster the courage to return home and face the enemy head-on. To save their families-and perhaps the world-they must learn to trust each other, master their newfound gifts, and discover that true power comes not from magic alone, but from love and courage.
