Layton, Minnesota is a sleepy little town, free from crime for nearly four decades. Aside from a serial killer in the 1980s, it's the perfect town. But when new counseling intern Shelli Hoffman starts working at the high school, she quickly finds herself involved in a complex web of kidnapping and lies. What she hoped was going to be an easy semester turns out to be terrifying.
Melissa Sullivan has been Chief of Layton Police for a few years now, and her tenure has been peaceful. Grateful for the laid back nature of her job, Melissa has it easy. When a student goes missing, and shortly after, a staff member disappears as well, Melissa realizes the cushy job history might not have been so beneficial after all.
As they learn more about the suspect and his connection to other mysterious deaths, Melissa begins to wonder if the town is seeing another serial killer.
Will she be able to find the missing people in time, or will this case destroy her legacy?
