About

We have added 30 healthy years to life expectancy in the last century alone. Whether you're approaching retirement, navigating a career change, or simply wondering how to live a meaningful life in your later years, it's not just about planning-it's about creating a life that defies expectations and maximizes the incredible potential of your most experienced years. The Age Rebellion, by age-diversity entrepreneur and pioneer Lyndsey Simpson, offers an inspiring, action-oriented approach to breaking free from outdated tropes about growing older. This book empowers readers to reclaim control and revise the rules of what's possible, with alternatives to traditional retirement that allow them to redesign their future, their way. A life of continued growth, productivity, and impact is possible-no matter your age.

From the Introduction

Let's be straight with each other right from the off. If you have picked up this book and are flicking through to see if it's the one for you to take on your next flight or train journey-or even make it onto your bedside table-then please DON'T read on if you are looking for some kind of woo-woo, self-help, find your soul by imagining yourself on a desert island–type guide. You will literally hate me. As my friends say, I'm direct and I like to think I'm funny (questionable of course) but I am certainly not the woo-woo friend if that's what you are looking for.

Likewise, DON'T read this, if you are looking for an academic, theoretical analysis of age and life expectancy with lots of cool graphs and statistical models of the future of the human race. I bloody love a statistic and trust me I have some numbers that will blow your mind. But I've done the five years of research and poring through other people's academic work, so that you won't have to, and I can distill it into the few numbers you need to know and that will have a big impact on your life.

But DO read this book if you are a bit lost about what to do next in your life and career and need some insight and inspiration to help you fire up a plan. And DO read this if you are intrigued and a little excited by what's coming next while being curious to know how to thrive in this next phase of life. I'm definitely the friend who says, why don't you do this-here's how you can, don't settle for anything less than, so let's grab a pad and pen and come up with a plan!

Equally, I really hope you DO read this if you are feeling like your age is getting in your way and you would like to know the secret to adding 7.5 years to your own life (without needing to diet, inject weight-loss drugs, sign up to some crazy scheme or pay anything for it!).

Lyndsey Simpson, CEO of 55/Redefined, is a driving force and powerful voice on one of the most urgent and under-debated topics of our time: widespread ageism in the workplace and an unrealistic expectation of retirement. Simpson, through her company 55/Redefined, has worked with some of the world's biggest companies-from AXA to Amazon, Barclays, and Diageo-enabling them to develop new age strategies for over-50 talent and consumers alike. She has been widely quoted in the business press for her mantra: "If you haven't got an age strategy, you haven't got a growth strategy."

"Few things are as important now as how you age and what to do with those extra years that longer lives bring. This book will make you think hard about what you want to do and how to do it. Whatever your age you have more years ahead of you than past generations and need to age differently. It's time to join the age rebellion."-Professor Andrew J. Scott, author of The Longevity Imperative and The 100-Year Life "At 50, I feel more energized, more curious, and more driven by purpose than at any other time-and The Age Rebellion explains exactly why. Ikigai has taught me that meaning deepens with age, and this book gives u
