When Professor Dowell, a brilliant scientist, dies under mysterious circumstances, his work does not die with him. In a secret laboratory, an experiment once thought impossible has become horrifyingly real. A human head can be kept alive, conscious and aware, without its body.
When a young doctor is drawn into this hidden world, she begins to suspect that the professor's research has crossed a line no one was meant to cross. Behind locked doors, scientific ambition is pushing further than anyone knows, and those involved may no longer be able to control what they have created.
First published in the 1920s, Alexander Belyaev's Professor Dowell's Head is a dark science fiction classic that asks unsettling questions about life, death and the limits of human experimentation. Strange, suspenseful and remarkably imaginative for its time, it's a gripping listen for fans of vintage science fiction with a sinister edge.
