Avoiding her proves to be a challenge when the case leads Andy to the psychiatric clinic she works at. Worlds collide, buried secrets are dug up, and Andy realizes he's going to have to burn it all down this time if he wants to pull off a rescue. With secrets, drugs, and doctors swirling around him, time is running out for Andy to locate the missing and get them to safety. And for him to make it back to San Francisco in one piece. "Vikas Adams's excellent narration gives personality and distinction to the characters in this audiobook. Several members of the queer rights organization called the Mattachine Society have disappeared, and Private Investigator Evander "Andy" Mills is hired to find them. When Andy's investigation takes him to the psychiatric clinic where his mother works, he must confront her and her prejudicial belief that being gay is an aberrant choice. Adam's vocal dexterity makes it seem like there's a full cast portraying the men and women in the audiobook. With its historic setting, this mystery explores some of what the queer community experienced in the mid-20th century, and Vikas Adam is an excellent guide. C.F.
