A hilarious, heartfelt and nostalgic memoir about the classic video games that entertain and inspire us, and even hold the power to transform our lives, from an Emmy®-nominated television writer, stand-up comedian and former writer for Nintendo, the perfect nonfiction read for fans of “Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow.”
At the ripe age of three, Mike Drucker got his very first Nintendo console—the Nintendo Entertainment System—and it was love at first “Duck Hunt.” Each new game expanded his worldview and helped him in unexpected ways. “Gameboy Golf”, for example, brought him closer to his grandparents. “Final Fantasy VII” helped him navigate the pitfalls of an early crush. And “Dance Dance Revolution” taught him how to almost, kinda move his body appropriately to music. As he reached adulthood, Mike knew he wanted a career in gaming and eventually took a job at Nintendo, where he wrote scripts for “Kid Icarus: Uprising”. In the process he found his comedic voice, which led him to a gig at “Saturday Night Live”, where he played against the cast in Wii Sports, and eventually to a celebrated writing post at “The Tonight Show.”
Mike shares stories of beloved classic games, including: • “NBA Jam” • “Street Fighter II” • “Mortal Kombat” • “Super Mario Brothers” • “Zelda” • “King's Quest” • “The Sims” • “Dungeons & Dragons” • and more!
In this fond and rollicking memoir, Drucker seamlessly braids revelatory personal stories and gaming history to explore the unexpectedly poignant ways that electronic entertainment can save us from ourselves. “Good Game, No Rematch” is a love letter to video games and the people who play them, from a sparkling voice in the world of comedy.
