THE ISLAND IS ABANDONED. BUT SHE IS NOT ALONE . . .
Off the windswept coast of Scotland lies Finish Island, rugged and remote. Once a home, it now stands abandoned, a place of dark history and deep memory, a place that holds its stories close. Unable to write since her daughter's death, it's here that Seren comes to work, hoping that the solitude and silence will inspire her next novel.
But the island holds memories of its own, restless and unwilling to stay buried. As unsettling occurrences become even more bizarre and frightening, Seren starts seeing uncanny resonances between her past and the island's history. There is something on this island, something ancient and unforgiving. Will Seren discover its secrets, before it's too late?
LONGLISTED FOR THE WILBUR SMITH ADVENTURE WRITING PRIZE Elisa Lodato grew up in London and read English at Cambridge. Her debut novel, An Unremarkable Body, was longlisted for the 2016 Bath Novel Award and shortlisted for the 2018 Costa First Novel Award. Her second novel is The Necessary Marriage and Ghost Story is her latest novel. Elisa lives in Gloucestershire with her husband and two children. She believes there is nothing on the island but the ghosts in her mind, but believing isn't enough. Ghost stories are perennially popular! E.g. The Haunting Season and Dark Matter. Elisa Lodato was shortlisted for the Costa First Novel Award for An Unremarkable Body in 2018. Ghost Story has a meta twist! We approached Elisa with the idea and in the novel, the protagonist's agent approaches her with an idea for a ghost story. Ghost Story will toy with your pulse and send chills down your spine. In an equal measure of grief and terror, this novel is an unmissable modern Gothic that lingers long after closing the covers. A slow-burner shot through with menace, this is perfect for when the nights draw in. Spine-tingling. Captivating. Lodato masterfully blends suspense and the supernatural, making this novel a must-read for those dark, gloomy nights as winter draws in. Terrific. Elegant, eerie and utterly chilling. Compulsive. . . Lodato immaculately weaves the supernatural with the metaphorical ghosts of the main character's past. Not only a creeping horror story but a powerful exploration of grief. I highly recommend this to all fans of the genre.
