Experience the peace that comes from centering your life around God, freeing yourself from the burden of self-centered stress.
Have you ever felt like you're constantly performing, always under the spotlight, and never truly at peace? Or that the pressure is all on you to maintain your image, be spiritual enough, and hold everything together? In Free Me from Me, pastor and author Ryan Wekenman uncovers the psychological, cultural, and spiritual traps that keep us focused on ourselves. Through relatable anecdotes and profound insights, he reveals how our obsession with self-improvement can lead us further into the "me-maze" of ourselves.
This book offers a path to genuine freedom from all the unrelenting pressure we put on ourselves in our pursuit to have this life thing all figured out. Wekenman explains that all of us are buried under several layers of the self: most notably The Performer, The Comparer, The Avoider, and The Controller. By pursuing habits of surrender and by practicing prayer and gratitude, we can begin to throw off these layers that leave us heavily burdened and keep us from living a full and free life. When we do, we can move from:
• self-image to God's image
• self-righteousness to God's righteousness
• self-help to God's-help
• self-care to soul-care
Whether you're struggling to escape the pressures of modern life or seeking to experience the "Come to me, and I will give you rest" promise given to us by Jesus, Free Me from Me offers a refreshing reminder to place God at the center of your life so you can breathe a deep exhale for your weary soul. Ryan Wekenman is a storyteller and pastor who is passionate about finding creative ways to help people explore life's biggest questions. He is the author of Single Today and the co-host of two podcasts, Stories in Scripture, a show that brings the Bible to life for people all around the world, and Afterthoughts, a weekly conversation about faith, culture, and the church. He has a master's degree from Talbot School of Theology and is the teaching pastor of Red Rocks Austin, a young, vibrant church he helped start with a few of his best friends.
