Draculaby Bram Stoker, first published in 1897, is a gothic horror novel that has become one of the most influential works in the vampire genre. The story is told through a series of journal entries, letters, newspaper clippings, and a ship's log, presenting a fragmented and multi-perspective narrative. The novel follows the journey of Jonathan Harker, a young English solicitor who travels to Transylvania to assist Count Dracula with a real estate transaction in England. Upon arriving at Draculas castle, Harker quickly realizes that he is a prisoner and that Dracula is not an ordinary man, but a centuries-old vampire with the ability to shape-shift, control the weather, and command animals.
Draculas ultimate goal is to move to England, where he plans to spread the curse of vampirism. As the story unfolds, Dracula embarks on a dark and twisted campaign to claim new victims, primarily focusing on Harkers fiance, Mina, and her friends. The characters, including Harker, his wife, Lucy, and their friends, including Dr. John Seward, Professor Abraham Van Helsing, and others, must confront the evil force that is Dracula.
The figure of Dracula has become one of literatures most enduring and iconic villains. His presence in the novel is both alluring and terrifying. He is a character who represents the power of the past, clashing with the rational, scientific world of the late 19th century. His supernatural abilities and his constant manipulation of time, space, and people reflect the novels exploration of the supernatural as a challenge to the emerging modern worldview. The characters' fight against Dracula is not only a battle against evil but also a struggle to preserve the values and order of their world in the face of something ancient and incomprehensible.
