Through vivid storytelling and heartfelt reflection, Philip Anthony Mitchell, pastor of 2819 Church in Atlanta, Contend is a prophetic wake-up call for the modern church, revealing the patterns of spiritual decay that have spread from the East to the West, threatening the vitality of faith in America today. With urgency and passion, Mitchell challenges believers to confront the apathy, idolatry, and distractions that have infiltrated the church, calling for a return to the fire and fervor of true discipleship.
Drawing from the powerful words of Jude, the biological brother of Jesus, Pastor Philip Anthony exhorts readers to rise up and fight for the faith that was handed down through the blood of the martyrs and the sacrifice of Christ. This is not a call to passive belief but to active engagement-both outwardly in a culture that mocks and opposes biblical truth, and inwardly in the personal battles that threaten to extinguish the flame of faith. Readers will be inspired to:
•Rediscover the passion and purpose of their faith, leaving behind spiritual complacency and embracing a vibrant relationship with Christ.
•Stand firm on biblical truth in a society that increasingly opposes Christian values, without compromising love or grace.
•Find freedom from internal struggles of fear, shame, and unforgiveness that threaten to derail their spiritual journey.
•Disciple and prepare the next generation to stand strong when the world challenges their faith.
•Seek a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit, igniting a movement of repentance, renewal, and transformation in their life and church.
With the world in turmoil and the church slipping further into slumber, this book is a rallying cry for every believer to contend for the faith with courage, conviction, and humility. Each chapter closes with a "Takeaway Truth" and "Contender Challenge" for reflecting more deeply and activating one's faith with greater conviction. Whether battling cultural opposition or personal struggles, readers will come away feeling equipped and inspired to stand firm, battle boldly, and finish well. Are you weary of a lukewarm faith in a world growing colder to truth? Contend, deeply rooted in the message from the book of Jude, will equip you to reignite your passion for Christ, stand firm against cultural and spiritual decay, and fight boldly for the faith that transforms lives.
