Buster Bee expects every year to follow the same dependable pattern, but one extra date seems to have nowhere to go. His search leads to February 29, the day that appears only during a leap year, and to a much bigger question about why a calendar sometimes needs an additional square. With counting, clues, and an age-appropriate look at the way Earth's trip around the Sun affects the calendar, Buster Bee and the Day That Wouldn't Fit makes leap years memorable and fun. Young listeners learn that systems sometimes need small adjustments to stay accurate-and that the odd piece that seems not to belong may be exactly what makes everything fit.
