What kind of child grows up to create Billy on the Street? And who is the real Billy when he's not playing his iconic character? From the voice behind the viral sensation comes a hilarious and poignant memoir exclusively on audio about his unlikely path to stardom, the artists that inspired him, and the forces that shaped him along the way.
Actor-comedian-writer-producer Billy Eichner is probably best known for running around the streets of New York City with a microphone shouting in people's faces and asking hard-hitting questions, like, "Do Gay People Care About John Oliver?" and offering people a dollar if they can simply "Name A Woman!" (Sometimes, inexplicably, they can't.) His beloved TV and web series Billy on the Street grew into a buzzy, critically acclaimed show and then a viral internet sensation, even enjoying a rebirth on TikTok more than a decade after the TV show debuted. It's brought him fame, fans and Emmy nominations-three Primetime and one Daytime. But as Billy on the Street might declare: DAYTIME COUNTS!
What most of his fans don't know is that Billy started out as a classically trained actor and that the success of Billy on the Street came as a (mostly) happy surprise for this native New Yorker. Behind the scenes, Billy has always been equal parts satirist and serious creative thinker. Beyond delving into his experience creating Billy on the Street and Bros, Billy shares funny and inspiring stories about growing up in Queens as the chubby gay kid of two loving, idiosyncratic parents while paying tribute to family members, teachers, mentors, and-in true Billy on the Street fashion-his all-time favorite entertainers.
In Billy on Billy, Eichner takes us along on a surprising and emotional journey, revealing the multidimensional artist behind the mic. Featuring clips from his most famous sketches, Billy shares how he created his viral yet unconventional character and begins untangling how- having made such a beloved hit-he's still evolving as an artist.
Billy on Billy: A Memoir by Billy Eichner is a forthcoming audio original from Macmillan Audio. What kind of child grows up to become Billy on the Street? From the voice behind the viral sensation comes a hilarious and poignant audio original memoir about his unlikely path to stardom, the role models that inspired him, and the forces that shaped him along the way.
"Eichner's delightful audio-only memoir is full of the qualities that make his on-screen performances fun to watch, including his trademark verve and passion for pop culture. Listeners familiar with Eichner's urgent and energetic style of asking questions on his series Billy on the Street will recognize this persona as he revisits the show's development and its impact on his life and career. The heart of Eichner's memoir, however, is a genuine, heartfelt remembrance of growing up in Queens, warmly supported by his parents. The production blends extra audio elements into the memoir, giving it additional layers: audio clips from both Billy on the Street and Eichner's film, Bros; show tune renditions; and the author's Alan Arkin-esque vocal characterization of his father.
An immensely entertaining tribute to love and resilience."
