A story not simply of a humble man but of a faithful God, this beautifully written autobiography takes us behind the scenes and into the heart of one of the most influential pastors of the past century, Chuck Swindoll.
Born in rural Texas in 1934, Charles Swindoll often heard that he was a "mistake." He began stuttering in seventh grade and questioned where he fit in the world. But even as he stumbled through adolescence into young adulthood, God was working out His purposes.
In Awakened by Grace, Swindoll shares for the first time the story of how God grew a small, insecure boy into a man who delights in speaking grace and truth to millions. This book celebrates God's presence in each of our lives as we journey with Swindoll through
• a childhood spent in the shadow of World War II and with feelings of being unwanted,
• meeting the drama teacher who helped him find his voice and the sixteen-year-old girl who he's still married to after seven decades,
• a season with the Marine Corps that strengthened his leadership gifts and his faith,
• the sermon that led to the building of a worldwide ministry, and
• the joys and challenges of grounding his public life in private faithfulness.
Including wisdom gleaned from over sixty years in ministry, words he would like to speak to his younger self, and encouragement for anyone going through tough times, Swindoll reminds us that God is at work in ordinary lives, shaping us for His glory before we even recognize His hand.
