A dying man brings all his oldest friends together for one last blowout weekend in this witty, heartfelt novel from the author of Last Couple Standing.
Thirty-five and with a net worth of one-point-two billion dollars, Robbie Malcolm is the five-hundred-and-thirty-third richest person in America. His life has been filled with carefully traded stocks, first class flights, and benefit galas. But like all of us, Robbie is going to die. Except now he knows it's sooner rather than later. Cancer is a tough negotiator and health is the one thing his money can't buy.
As he takes stock of his life, Robbie realizes he's been more focused on making his fortune than spending it on the people he loves. He decides to invite his oldest friends to Fenwick Island off the coast of Delaware, where they used to spend lazy summers together in college, for a last goodbye. Not wanting to ruin the mood, he keeps his rapidly fading health a secret, billing it instead as the beach party to end all beach parties.
Blair, Cat, and Wade are reluctant. They're adults now, with lives and jobs and 401(k)s--or some of them are, anyway. Who has time to spend a weekend getting drunk and nostalgic with friends they haven't seen in years? But lured by the promise of an all-expenses-paid-vacation, they all show up. And as it turns out, while they've all gotten older, none of them have grown up. All the secret resentments, the buried crushes, the inside jokes: it's all still there. And it all comes to the surface over the course of a wild weekend of surprises, when a group of friends who thought the best years of their life were behind them realize just how much they have to look forward to. Matthew Norman has written another hilarious and charming novel about friendship and what it means to live a fulfilling life.
