For the first time, the director and co-creators of This is Spinal Tap provide the full behind-the-scenes story of the making of the groundbreaking mockumentary.
Since its original release in 1984, This Is Spinal Tap has evolved from a beloved cult film into an all-time comedy classic. It pioneered the mockumentary genre and is one of the most quoted movies. Now, Reiner, Guest, McKean, and Shearer share clever and stupid tales of their famous collaboration – how the fictional band Spinal Tap came to be and how their low-budget indie film took on an unexpected life of its own.
Featuring never-before-seen photographs, band memorabilia and personal reminiscences of their enduring creative partnership, A Fine Line Between Stupid and Clever will delight Tap heads of all ages.
"The late Reiner recounts the bizarre origin of the mock rock band Spinal Tap and traces its evolution through the past 40 years. With band members Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer, Reiner talks tongue-in-cheek about the world's most infamous fake band. They narrate in and out of character about the craziness of the movie project, which was pitched with no script or budget. The guest list of music celebrities in the audiobook seems endless. McKean, Shearer, and Guest are actors and writers who have appeared in countless movies and television shows, both serious and comedic. Spinal Tap is their way of letting off steam with inside jokes about the rock industry that surprisingly hit very close to home. Hilarious--a must for Spinal Tap fans. M.S.
