Wisting and his team are alerted to a horrific crime scene in Larvik, where the severed head of a young asylum seeker is displayed on a spike in the middle of the town square. FBI agent Maggie Griffin returns to investigate the case and aid Wisting. It is now of international interest.

When a body turns up in the net of a local fisherman, a connection is drawn between two murders. Will this lead the detectives to Layla's remains? After a conversation with her brother, Line suspects that Wisting has been intimate with the head of the care center.

In Sweden, Maggie and Wisting find a previous victim hiding under a false name. Together with the Swedish police, they are dragged into a major police operation, but the case ends up back where it started, in Larvik. The final showdown becomes both intense and surprising.
