We Bought a Vineyard - Season 1

Henry and Harriet receive terrible news that could potentially end their dream of running a vineyard ... the design of new labels doesn't quite go to plan once bottling commences ... while loving the nurturing of baby Alby, Harriet feels a tension around not being involved enough in the wine-making process ...and farmhand Scott, who had been living on site for six months, moves on to follow his own dreams.

After more than two months, the Churchills finally get their liquor licence back, just in time for the major food and wine festival for the region ... while Harriet is busy with a stall at a local fayre, Henry is experiencing mixed fortunes with sales at a pop up cellar door closer to the main event action ... the Churchills bottle their shiraz with a little help from their friends ... local winemaker Llew Knight, who made award winning Zig Zag Rd riesling, offers his take on wine tasting for the first time ... Harriet explains their adoption of the Zig Zag wine dog ... and a new couple move into the caboose to learn about working on the land.

Harriet is in the vineyard starting the important work of shoot thinning in preparation for summer months ... the Churchills are devastated after seeing the effects of a damaging unseasonal frost that has ruined much of their prized shiraz crop ... Harriet discusses the thinking behind the new brand Kindfolk ... a deadly tiger snake gets stuck in the bathroom and Harriet talks about how tough being winemakers can be.

Harriet discusses the holistic approach to their venture, in particular the move away from harmful sprays and pesticides ... the Churchills reminisce about when they met in Bangladesh and how they came to Australia ... Henry's dad Michael - who played in a UK blues band at the famous Woodstock Festival back in 1969 - arrives for Christmas ... it's time for X-mas drinks at cellar door for the first time with their new set of neighbours.

One year into their foray as winemakers, Henry opens up on just how hard this gig has been ... Henry also joins other local winemakers for an on-site seminar from soil microbiology guru Mary Cole ... Harriet explains the inspiration for their move to buy Zig Zag Winery and also has deliveries to make ... and with fruit starting to show, Henry is in the vineyard preparing an organically approved sulphur and copper spray for the vines.

Hungry birds can destroy an entire crop, so Henry and the team are applying the nets to the vineyard ... the call has gone out for a working bee before the Churchills head west for a holiday ... Harriet and Henry reveal some devastating news ... over in Western Australia, the family stops in to visit Glenarty Rd Wines in Margaret River, while Leeuwin Estate is home to the country's most collected white wine, the 2016 Art Series Chardonnay.

With the popular Lost Trades Fair in town, Henry and Harriet have set up at a festival and a pop up cellar door to capitalise on the traffic ... the Churchills have to make a tough decision on an integral part of the team ...both Harriet and Henry continue their work at Galli Estate winery under the watchful eye of mentor Ben Ranken ... it's time to pick at Zig Zag Rd ... and Harriet discusses the new-look cellar door.

It's time to bottle the pinot noir and the Churchills are using cork for the first time ... the renovated cellar door is finally ready for business ... Henry and the team pick pinot grigio grapes at nearby Sailors Falls winery and get them straight in to the press... Henry takes wine to cold storage and catch up with Gilles Lapalus, maker of the Zig Zag pet nat and Riesling.

The Churchills have an eye for the future and so have started developing a market garden on site with the help of a local chef ... Harriet is testing wine ferments in the winery ... Henry heads to Melbounre with a delivery for their biggest client and a catch up with a city sommelier ... it's already colder in autumn and Gilles drops by to test the pet nat with spectacular results ... Henry and Harriet get some critique from ben Ranken on their latest pinot and the entire wine community close to the Churchills gets together for a recap of a big first 18 months.
