The Cold Case team is a crack squad of police investigators who reopen unsolved murder cases, using new technology to re-examine evidence that hopefully will lead to the killer. The team discover a similar murder dating back to the 1960s. Then the killer strikes again and a further victim is found nailed to the floor – this time in a nursing home for the elderly. Is World War II the common link? The team must find the next possible victim, but no one knows where he is.

Boyd is told by an ex-army officer that the security services did not always play fair in Northern Ireland in the 1970s. When he discovers that his car has been bugged, he realises that things haven't changed. The ex-officer promises Boyd new evidence, but is killed in a car bomb before he can deliver it. As the evidence starts pointing back to the assassinated Government minister, the solution appears to be clear.
