Filmmaker River Haag travels to war-torn Syria, documenting stories of the worst humanitarian crisis since WWII. After meeting a medical unit of passionate volunteers, River finds himself forced by conscience to use his own military medical training to join the YPG in the fight against ISIS, providing treatment to civilian casualties of war, as well as Kurdish, Arab, and even ISIS fighters. Contains graphic scenes of real warfare and violence.

The volunteers continue to aid the YPG. In a society that glorifies martyrdom, River and the team struggle with local leaders to prove their worth. They are granted access to the front lines and some of the most dangerous situations ever known, but they do not get out unscathed. River hears news from home and must plan his exit before a historic battle in the ISIS defended city of Manbij. Contains graphic scenes of real warfare and violence.
