About
On a night in July 1997, police burst into the home where Federico Scotta lives with his family. The authorities order the immediate removal of his two children, ages 3 years and 6 months. Federico is accused of being part of a network of pedophiles and of having sexually abused his daughter and other children. Thus begins the case of the "Devils of Lower Modena," a series of instances of pedophilia and satanism that leads to the permanent removal of 16 children from their families. The investigation reveals the existence of a sect led by a priest who practiced satanic rituals in which the children were forced to participate. The medico-legal reports prove the members of the sect guilty, and, in June 2000, all of the accused are convicted in first instance in a huge trial and sentenced to lengthy prison sentences, many of which are confirmed in appeals. Twenty years after the investigation, journalist Pablo Trincia sheds doubt on the entire case thanks to new and shocking revelations. In opposition to Trincia's version of events, a committee made up of the foster families and the now-adult children is formed. Meanwhile, in 2019, in the nearby town of Bibbiano: various social workers end up under investigation for having removed children from their families. Is the "poison" still in circulation?
