When two-year-old Hope Wilkins is abducted from her home, detectives Martha, Jack, and Charlie race to find her. The toddler's father, his estranged wife, and their son all come under suspicion, but then a convicted child killer is connected to the case.

Charlie and Jack investigate an assault on nightclub owner Kirk Hawthorne and find Kirk's sister, Ziggy, unconscious in the cellar. The hospital reports that Ziggy suffered a brain hemorrhage and a drug overdose. When a 19-year-old student dies from an overdose of the same drug, Charlie and Jack call Martha in on the case.
