On the first day of middle school, Lydia and Julie's big plans to become the most popular girls in school are thwarted when Addison effortlessly steals the limelight. Lydia and Julie hypothesize that it's Addison's clothes that make her popular and thus begins their first experiment: "Does being fashionable make you popular?" They decide to enter in the school's t-shirt design competition and end up modeling their t-shirts on the runway themselves.

When the drama teacher announces the best actor in their class will get to perform at the school assembly, Lydia is thrilled - this is her ticket to fulfilling her destiny as a world-renowned actress! But with Sage, her lifelong rival, as the frontrunner to win, Lydia resorts to shadier tactics in order to win. Meanwhile, Julie is forced to be scene partners with oddball Ursula, a conspiracy-loving classmate who is convinced that the teachers at school surveil students in secret.

Julie joins the Art Club in order to befriend a cool art kid, but ends up being challenged to make her art more personal. When she digs deeper, she paints a portrait of herself struggling with growing up while her dads treat her like a little girl. Meanwhile Lydia is on a tear to make Julie the star of the school art show.

It's the long weekend in Mapleview, and everyone has fabulous trips planned except for Lydia and Julie. When Elaine announces both the Goldblatts and the Graham-Changs will be going on a joint mini-getaway, the girls are psyched - until they realize their "vacation" will be spent at a snooze-worthy campground. The girls go to great lengths to get the perfect, envy worthy vacation photos.
5. Smells Like Tween Spirit

When Julie gets scouted for the popular field hockey team, the girls realize that being an athlete is a surefire ticket to popularity - only problem is Julie is the total opposite of a jock. As Julie trains with the players, she learns that she's totally misunderstood what being a teammate is really about and ends up bonding with them. Meanwhile, Lydia finds herself on the outside and struggles with being left behind.
6. Tears of A Class Clown

After being humiliated by Mike Cavalleri and the "Goldbladder" nickname for the millionth time, Lydia decides she's had enough. Taking a page from Mike's book, Lydia decides to become an insult comic, hoping her funny quips will earn her the laughs and adoration of her fellow students - and finally take him down a peg! But she goes a little too far with her insults on stage at a school assembly. Lydia discovers there's a fine line between being a class clown and a bully.
