1. Free At Last // the Dragon

Tripitaka gets the Chinese emperor's permission to set off for India in search of books of wisdom. Tripitaka meets Monkey and frees him from imprisonment, and the two become companions on the westward pilgrimage to India. // During an argument, Tripitaka banishes Monkey from the pilgrimage. Tripitaka's horse runs away after seeing a dragon, but the goddess Kwan Yin turns the dragon into a replacement steed, then brings about a reconciliation between Tripitaka and Monkey.
2. The Magic Robe // the Monster and the Monk

Tripitaka and Monkey arrive at the temple of Kwan Yin, where the evil chief monk, Kam Fong, borrows their precious robe. Kam Fong and his henchmen set fire to the temple, hoping to get rid of the two pilgrims and keep the robe forever. // Tripitaka and Monkey have escaped the fire in the temple of Kwan Yin, but their robe is gone. They suspect that the bear monster of Black Wind Mountain stole it, but he denies responsibility for the theft, so Monkey confronts Kam Fong in an attempt to recover the robe.
3. Prisoners of Black Wind Mountain // the Third Traveler

Having defeated Kam Fong and learned that the bear monster has the precious robe, Monkey returns to Black Wind Mountain. Monkey and Tripitaka are both captured by the monster and must use their wits to escape and get the robe. // Tripitaka and Monkey meet Lord Gao, whose household is troubled by a pig monster who comes to their home every night and raises an awful uproar. After being subdued, the monster joins Tripitaka and Monkey on their journey and becomes Pigsy, the third pilgrim.
4. The Desert Sandstorms // the Fourth Traveler

As the three pilgrims are crossing a desert, the evil Stormrat uses his magical powers to capture Tripitaka. Monkey and Pigsy must work together to overcome Stormrat's irresistible whirlwind and rescue their companion. // Tripitaka, Monkey and Pigsy come to the Great Sandy River but have no way to get across until they subdue the monster who lives in the river. He joins them on the journey and Tripitaka names him Sandy, after the river in which he once lived.
5. The Stolen Fruit // the Fallen Tree

The four pilgrims arrive at the temple of Long-Life Mountain, where Pigsy persuades Monkey to steal the fruit of the temple's mystical tree. Confronted with his crime by the temple's two assistant monks, Monkey uproots the tree and casts a sleep spell over his accusers. // Outraged by Monkey's attack on his mystical tree, the Immortal Sage of Long-Life Mountain captures all four pilgrims and holds them prisoner until Monkey promises to restore the tree. But Monkey discovers that he can't undo the damage he's done until Kwan Yin comes to his aid.
6. The Iron Catfish // A Witch In Disguise

The four companions come to a village on the banks of the Misty Torrent River and learn that the villagers are being terrorized by the Iron Catfish. The Catfish soon makes Tripitaka his prisoner: Monkey, Sandy and Pigsy must work together to defeat him and free their friend. // Tripitaka and his companions arrive in the desolate Stone Valley, where the nasty Jade Witch has hatched a plot to capture Tripitaka. She puts on a succession of disguises, fooling all the pilgrims except Monkey, who foils the witch's plan.
