Following a successful police raid, Catherine ensures all the women are taken to safe houses. Ilinka, who has vital information on those behind the trafficking, is given refuge with Catherine's neighbour Winnie and reluctantly agrees to speak to the police. But has Catherine inadvertently put her in danger? As Vicky's threats continue, John takes drastic measures to save both his marriage and reputation.

Paying the price of attending Lynn Dewhurst's funeral, Catherine is ordered to undergo a course of therapy or face medical retirement. Still unable to provide an alibi, Joyce offers a helping hand - but will Catherine take it? John takes drastic measures to stage Vicky's murder, while his already-fragile marriage continues to deteriorate. Meanwhile, Ann throws herself into work following her mother's death, Clare receives some unsettling news from Ryan and Catherine continues to look out for Ilinka, as a development in the human trafficking case comes to a head.

When a local sex worker is attacked by a client she turns to Catherine for help. Since she didn't recognise her attacker, the only lead they have is the vehicle she was picked up in. Catherine soon puts two and two together, leading to the arrest of a very well-known local. With the anniversary of Becky's death looming, Catherine, Clare and Daniel all pull together to give Ryan a happy birthday. But when Ryan finds a gift left for him on the doorstep by an anonymous sender, all celebrations are cut short and a rift opens between Catherine and her beloved grandson.
