In this episode, Dr. Richard Jackson investigates the link between the obesity epidemic and the Type-2 Diabetes epidemic that's sweeping the United States that has been amplified by the urban sprawl fueled by car dependency. To prevent disease through better urban planning, Boulder, Colorado has redesigned the city to make bicycles a safe alternative form of transportation. Two Denver, Colorado suburbs have transformed dead malls into mixed-use and public transit-centered communities. These changes are being implemented all over the country. In Georiga, an abandoned mall gains new life as a charter school while two former grad students from Georgia Tech, mentored by their professor, create visionary projects that are forever changing the face of Atlanta.
