Feeling alone and vulnerable because her parents are always working, Lucy is pleased when a substitute teacher takes a special interest in her. However, she soon discovers that his desires go beyond simply wanting to help her.

Joey makes an after-school study date with the new girl, Liz, who has a "fast" reputation. He prepares for the date by buying condoms, but discovers a different person than he expected. Arthur, also worried about his sexual development, phones a radio talk show host for advice.

Spike and Shane's parents finally meet and all agree adoption is best for Spike's baby. Shane, however, has his own ideas. Meanwhile, Melanie breaks a date with Yick to go out with Snake, but her deception is discovered.

Recently diagnosed as an epileptic, Caitlin is having a hard time accepting her condition. She convinces her mother to let her audition for the school play, but then nearly drops out - blaming her disease - when she doesn't get the part. Meanwhile, shy Michelle is terrified at the thought of giving a speech and tells her teacher that she has laryngitis.

When, in response to Joey's ridicule, Dwayne challenges him to a fight, Joey feels he has to go through with it. Meanwhile, Stephanie finally realizes, after weeks of flirtation, that Simon is interested in Alexa, not her.
