About

Retired Texas Ranger Nash Crawford reunites his former ranger team to fight crime.

1970 American Comedy Family Western Film. It was an ABC Movie of the Week, sequel to the western comedy The Over-the-Hill Gang (1969). Starring Walter Brennan and Fred Astaire. The supporting cast includes Edgar Buchanan, Andy Devine, Chill Wills, Lana Wood and Burt Mustin (all of whom, except Wood, were in The Over-the-Hill Gang). It was written by Richard Carr and directed by George McCowan.

Four retired Texas Rangers, Nash Crawford, Jason Fitch, Amos Polk and Gentleman George Agnew, band together to help their old friend, the Baltimore Kid. Although Kid has become a hopeless drunk, the group's mission is to clean him up and reinstate him as marshal of Waco, Texas. However, they will face the challenge of defeating the band of outlaws that threatens to end Kid's life. The gang faces corruption in his own hometown, and they band together to cleanse the city of him, restore the rule of law, and rehabilitate the lush city along the way.

Pat O'Brien had played the second lead in the first film, but his character was left out of the sequel and was effectively replaced by Astaire, who was not in the original film. Richard Widmark played O'Brien's character in a quasi-remake two decades later entitled Once Upon a Texas Train (1988), in which the Over-the-Hill Gang, with an entirely new cast including Stuart Whitman, played supporting roles to Willie Nelson's train robber. This was the final film for three-time Academy Award-winner Walter Brennan.
