Robert Mitchum and Sarah Miles star in a tender and moving story of love, passion and commitment in a small village set against the out-sized canvas of the Irish Revolution. Kirrary, Ireland. 1916. In a stark coastal village, Rosy (Miles), the young wife of the local schoolmaster (Mitchum) meets a British officer (Christopher Jones) while working in her father's pub. Passion sparks instantly between the two, but during the troubles between Ireland and it's British masters, no good can come of their relationship. And when someone betrays local Irish rebels to the British, devastating rumors spread about Rosy, pub-owner Ryan's Daughter. Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (John Mills) and Best Cinematography (Freddie Young).
