Laurel & Hardy play themselves as actors on the set, filming several hilarious sketches and scenes. The underlying plot concerns a Cinderella story of a young country girl who comes to Hollywood and achieves movie stardom with the help of a publicity man. The film is populated with stars from the Hal Roach stable and was originally titled Pick A Star. This is the unedited version of the film
