About
These film reels had vanished for decades and no one knew about the secret passion of Hitler's second man Hermann Goering. This footage from his private collection shows for the first time how he preferred to see himself: at the height of his power, acclaimed by the masses - as in the annexation of Austria in 1938, as Commander-in-Chief of the Luftwaffe and finally as Hitler's most important henchman. We gain an insight into the emotional life of one of the most powerful Nazis who left no diary and almost no personal notes behind, and who was involved in almost all the crimes of the regime. The films, mostly shot in color, unveil the mystery of the "Nazi number one", who was convicted and sentenced to death at the Nuremberg trials, but then committed suicide by cyanide ingestion the night before he was due to be hung. "Goering's secret" shows the most powerful man behind Hitler from a new perspective and not with the official films from the newsreels, but only with the private films. They allow an uncensored and direct view on one of the most enigmatic characters of the Nazi regime. How could a highly decorated World War I fighter pilot become such a corrupt and ruthless henchman of Hitler? What role did he play in the rise of the dictator? Why did he become a drug addict? Besides power and money, what was important to him? Why was he reluctant to follow Hitler into the war and why did he lose ground so rapidly? Who was this baroque man, who loved the grandeur and luxury so much, really? "Goering's secret" gives answers to these last open questions.
