About
Gun shots immediately roar at the beginning of Club Paradise (a.k.a. Sensation Hunters), a lurid "Detour-ish" tale featuring Doris Merrick as Julie, a naïve young factory worker living in a bad family situation, who becomes displeased when her father kicks her out of the house after being arrested at a gambling joint. To make ends meet she goes to work in "Club Paradise" as an exotic dancer and is immediately embraced by the employees of the club, especially the band, and becomes particular friends with the trumpet player Ray (Eddie Quillan). She eventually steps away from this kind and thoughtful musician friend and becomes entangled with the handsome and suave but troubled new stranger in town Danny (Robert Lowery) that leads to romantic intrigue and ultimately murder. The sets and atmospheric mood portrayed in Club Paradise add to the films vivid club-life ambiance of the mid-1940s.
