Debut novelist Anna Garcia Schaper weaves together the stories of two women who deal with tormentors: fifteen-year-old Pilar, who dreams of becoming an actor but is reminded constantly she's too fat, too Mexican, and her feisty but traditional grandmother, who years earlier had to come to terms with her own bully, her abusive husband.
