About

"The Gladstone boys are sure getting picked off one by one, and I'm afraid many of them will not come back. There are lots of peace talks, but I'm afraid peace is a long way off yet, but we will sure stay with it...everyone hears so many rumors that you take everyone as a joke..."Jack McAskill was a Sergeant-Major in the 12th Canadian Field Ambulance (Transport). James McAskill began in the artillery and later transferred to the 1 Bakers unit to fill the need for more bakers. Their letters home begin after they leave their small town in Manitoba, Canada, and continue through their many experiences in England and France during World War 1. The letters are illustrated with pictures that they sent back at the time, as well as relevant items from the historical archive.
